New Leather Boots

Just yesterday I bought myself a new pair of boots. A bit funky and a bit stylish. I am soon to retire my all time favorites from Italy. Glove soft black leather lined in red leather and with red leather soles. I bought them on the Via Lungo in Lucca, Italy 11 years ago, have worn them almost daily through almost every season. I have resoled them three times and believe it or not, the zipper still works.
I love autumn and cold weather and wearing leather boots. And what makes me very happy is finding boots that are all leather, inside and out. When I find a pair of boots that fits well, is comfortable, and can be resoled I want them to be either lined in leather or unlined because nothing is worse than having fake fleece or fabric that wears out and comes apart long before the leather has even been broken in. It is more and more difficult to find a cobbler, a true shoemaker or even someone who knows how to repair and resole boots. A sad testimony to the day and age of throw away sport shoes that seem to be the standard issue uniform for most Americans.
The additional bonus to the all leather boot discovery is that I found, quite by chance, a family owned shoe store in a small neighborhood in NE Portland, Amenity Shoes, at the corner of Fremont and NE 41st. Liz and Zaki know their inventory and offer a grand selection of unique, quality shoes, handbags, jewelry and other accessories. Great customer service. Personal attention. I am definitely going back and hope to see you there.
And Happy Full Moon to all of you and Happy Autumn Equinox.
